Today’ show host Matt Lauer and his wife Annette have rubbished reports that suggested they are headed for a divorce. According to a report in The National Enquirer, Lauer and his wife have gone separate ways following some palpable streaks of infidelity in their 12-year marriage.
Matt Lauer denies divorce reports
However, Lauer blasted the reports, claiming he is still living with his family. "I am living in my apartment with Annette and my children as a family and a couple," he told People. "I have never moved out. I am not moving out. There is no truth to that." Not only Matt Lauer, his wife Annette is also strongly denying their break-up. "Out of self respect, I want to stand up for our family and protect them," she said, in a separate interview with People. According to Enquirer, even Matt’s ex-wife, Nancy Alspaugh, had learnt about his divorce. “I heard he and Annette are breaking up. I was not shocked to hear that but it’s very sad,” she reportedly said.
Past problems in marriage
Lauer admits that there have been many ups and downs in the marriage, but he insists that he has never cheated on his wife, contradicting the stories that were often written about his infidelity. “Have we had a completely perfect, easy marriage? No. But the stories you've read over the years are not true,” Lauer said. “I don't think we're any different than any married couple that's been together for 12 years.” Have we had a completely perfect, easy marriage? No. But the stories you've read over the years are not true. Annette, while pregnant with her third child with Matt Lauer, had filed for divorce in 2006 but she withdrew it within a month and they have since stayed as a couple.
Lauer thrashes all reports
But Lauer has completely thrashed all these reports, saying, that his wife and three children were, in fact, with himon Valentine’s Day. The family went skiing at the Whistler resort near Vancouver, he told People. Also, People reports that Lauer did not party much in Vancouver, contrary to the reports. “He was getting up at 1:30 a.m. to make it to Today's Olympic set for broadcasts that began at 4 a.m. local time. As a result, he was in bed most nights by 7:30 p.m,” says the magazine.
Too many suspicions, little truth
Reportedly, the suspicions of problems in Lauer’s marriage arose when he went to cover the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in February. He skipped Valentine’s Day celebrations with his wife and stayed there a little longer after completing his work. The 52-year-old allegedly spent a wild time in Canada, and openly flirted with some girls. Annette, on learning about her husband’s acts, confronted him and the two ended up in a heated argument.
Besides, Lauer said he did not stay in Vancouver any longer than the rest of Today crew. In fact, he got back home two days before everybody else did.
